As I’ve stated on twitter, I always find myself wrapped up in these high profile court cases. In my first installment of #RatchetWednesday, I’m taking a look at the recent dramatic developments in the #TrayvonMartin murder case.
Just in case you’ve been living under a rock, #TrayvonMartin was a Floridian child who was murdered by #GeorgeZimmerman. #Zimmerman, a local vigilante, claims he shot #Trayvon in self defense.
Well, in a stunning turn of events, #Zimmerman’s wife, Amber Portwood Shellie Zimmerman, was just thrown in jail for lying under oath. In a recent bond hearing for her husband, Amber Shellie testified under oath that her family was indigent (extremely poor) because she is a full time student with no spousal income. As a result, the Judge set a relatively low bond ($15,000 upfront) which #GeorgeZimmerman posted immediately. Obviously Amber’s Shellie’s testimony was a blatant lie as the couple had received nearly $200,000.00 in donations. Moreover, records show that days before the hearing, Amber Shellie transferred about $80,000.00 from her husbands bank account to hers. Of course, Amber Shellie posted her own bail as soon as she was jailed, but she now faces 5 years in jail for her lie.
Mrs.Portwood Zimmerman carried out the transaction over the course of 8 days making transfers in increments of $7,500.00- $9,990.00. If transfers are under $10,000.00, banks are not required in reporting to the IRS. In a statement given to the Associated Press, federal prosecutor, Jeffrey Neiman insinuated that 5 years in jail is the least of Amber’s Shellie’s worries:
“If Mrs. Zimmerman intentionally structured the financial transactions in a manner to keep the offense under $10,000, not only may she have committed perjury in the state case, but she also may have run afoul of several federal statutes and could face serious federal criminal charges”
Her hubby remains in Jail following a judges angry ruling which resulted in his bail being revoked. #GeorgeZimmerman faces life in prison for the murder of #TrayvonMartin.
Would you lie under oath for a loved one? Are you ride or die?
